Doing good together

SBV Foundation

"Living and living" in the co-operative: we also understand this to mean that our members live together as good neighbours and support each other in times of need. The SBV Foundation Helmut Schumann has set itself the goal of promoting this co-operative community in the various SBV neighbourhoods - across generations and regardless of nationality.

The foundation supports numerous projects and social organisations as well as private individuals. You can find more information on this and on the activities for senior citizens and children under Events and activities.

Helmut Schumann, the long-standing Director and Chairman of the Board of SBV, gave the foundation its name when it was established in 2002. The foundation is administered by the Foundation Board, which is newly elected or re-elected every five years. The Board of the SBV Helmut Schumann Foundation consists of: Jürgen Möller (Chairman), Jan-Kai Jensen (Deputy Chairman), Michael Ebsen, Britta Zemke and Edgar Möller.

Contact persons and applications

The SBV Foundation Helmut Schumann aims to promote and strengthen community in Flensburg's districts and neighbourhoods and contribute to improving the situation of socially disadvantaged people.

In addition to the recurring events and projects that the foundation supports every year, new applications are regularly received from institutions and private individuals. In principle, any organisation, social institution or resident of Flensburg can contact the foundation with a request.

The application can be informal; what is important is a concrete description of the request and the amount of money required from the applicant.

The foundation's board of directors will decide whether to approve the application.

If you would like to submit an application for support from the foundation, please send it - on behalf of the foundation board - by e-mail to jmoeller(at)sbv-flensburg.de or by post to: SBV-Stiftung Helmut Schumann, Stiftungsvorstand, Willi-Sander-Platz 1, 24943 Flensburg.

Events and activities

Many events in Flensburg are realised with funds from the foundation: Children's and neighbourhood festivals, slide shows, sporting events, concerts, readings and excursions. In addition, we support social institutions, finance an educator position in the parish of Fruerlund and are active in work with senior citizens.

Private individuals who are in need and dependent on help can also count on our support. The allocation of funds is decided annually at the board meetings.

The regular activities of the SBV Foundation Helmut Schumann include the "Grundschulen bunter stiften" competition and the children's camp during the autumn holidays.

Making primary schools more colourful

Since 2011, the SBV Foundation Helmut Schumann has organised an annual competition for all primary schools in Flensburg and the surrounding area. Under the motto "Making primary schools more colourful", they can submit their ideas for new projects. The aim of these projects is to promote co-operation and the personal development of pupils at primary schools.

One special feature is the nature of the application documents: instead of carefully formulated applications, imaginative works of art are required in which the pupils present their wishes that they want to realise with the money from the competition. The aim is to show even the youngest children that it is worth standing up for their own needs.

The competition is usually announced shortly before the summer holidays.

Children's camp in the autumn holidays

Once a year, children from financially disadvantaged families have the opportunity to go to a subsidised holiday camp in the local area with the SBV. Since 2010, more than 100 children of SBV members have experienced exciting weeks full of discovery - while also learning values such as community and consideration in a playful way. The camp is also often a relief for parents, as they don't have to look after their children during the holidays.

The holiday camp takes place one week during the autumn holidays and is announced in good time for registration in the SBV-Boten and on the homepage of the SBV website.

Donation options

The foundation's total assets are mainly provided by the SBV, but also by clubs, associations, private organisations and individuals.

If you hand in your worn clothing in one of the SBV's used clothing containers, the items that are still wearable are distributed to those in need, while the rest are sold as raw materials. The proceeds go to the SBV Foundation.
