SBV has grown enormously in the years of its existence. Not only have we continued to develop new housing for our members. We have also continued to expand our business areas with our savings facility and SBV's External Management department. However, with more than 11,000 members, it is hardly possible to communicate all of our development steps to every member personally - even though we are happy to take every opportunity for personal dialogue with you.
To ensure that our members do not lose track of "their co-operative" and that new members can quickly find their way around our "model", we have summarised the most important key data for you here.
Two in one ...
Anyone who rents a flat is a tenant; anyone who lets a flat is a landlord. It's clear, isn't it?
Things work a little differently for us: when you buy shares in our co-operative, you not only become a member, but also have a stake in the entire SBV housing stock. This means that our members are two in one: tenants with lifelong residential rights and landlords.
However, as several thousand Flensburg residents cannot manage their flats together in a meaningful way, the SBV's Executive Board and employees take on this task.
Co-determination and responsibility nevertheless remain key concepts for each individual "SBV member".
... and a strong team for everyone
One of the ways in which every member has a say is through the election of representatives. Every five years, the members elect their representatives. They meet regularly, discuss upcoming and ongoing projects and vote on the distribution of the annual profit, for example. The association of elected representatives, the Representatives' Meeting, is the highest body of our co-operative. It also elects the Supervisory Board.
The members of the Supervisory Board appoint the Executive Board, support and monitor it and consult with it on upcoming projects.
The Executive Board puts together and manages its team of employees. It also regularly reports to the Supervisory Board and the Representatives' Meeting on its own actions and those of the administration.
The management/employee team performs all the tasks of a Renting division ... and a little more.
Together, the committees of our co-operative form a strong team for all members.
