We modernise & refurbish

Part IV: Mürwiker Straße and Hesttoft

Mürwiker Straße
Start of construction: expected mid-April Mid-April
Completion: expected mid-November Mid-November

For anyone who frequently drives along Mürwiker Straße towards Solitüde, the brick buildings from the 1920s and 1930s are part of the cityscape. Around half of the buildings along the right-hand side of the street have already been renovated. For the residents of houses 132, 134 and 144, the foundation stone will be laid in 2015 for lower energy bills in the future: The façades will be thermally insulated and the old windows replaced. To minimise energy loss upwards and downwards, the upper storey and basement ceilings will also be given an additional layer of insulation.

Despite the work on the façades, the people of Flensburg will not have to do without the brick look. A look at the buildings already completed in 2014 shows: Above the entrance area of the buildings, which are otherwise plastered and painted in colour throughout, the typical brick construction was integrated into the new design. The team from SBV-Gartenservice took care of the appropriate "trappings". In consultation with the members who live there, they will restore the outdoor areas with paving stones, plants and play equipment.

Hesttoft
Start of construction: expected mid-April Mid-April
Completion: expected End of October

The houses in Hesttoft 5 to 7 are getting a new roof. The old flat roof will be dismantled to such an extent that insulation can be applied. The façade and basement ceiling will also be well "wrapped".

Together with new windows, the buildings are well equipped in terms of energy efficiency for the coming years. Frank Jürgensen: "These measures will enable us to significantly reduce energy consumption."

SBV will invest around 8 million euros in these and other measures to improve its portfolio in 2015. SBV CEO Raimund Dankowski is convinced: "This is money well spent. After all, we are also safeguarding a piece of Flensburg's history with every building that is preserved." The residents of the refurbished properties do not have to dig deep into their pockets. "We are only adjusting the rents very moderately," promises SBV board member Jürgen Möller.
